Setting up and managing Identities in Outlook Express
Identities are used when you have two or more server based e-mail accounts. You will not need to use identities if you have a web-based e-mail address such as Hotmail or Yahoo.
Setting up Multiple Identities
- Start Outlook Express by double clicking on the Outlook Express icon.
- Set up your main account as described on your instruction sheet.
- After your main account is set up click on the File menu, click on Identities, and Add New Identity
- In the New Identity dialog box type a name for the Identity (the users first name is probably the best choice) then click OK.
- In the Display Name box, type the name you want others to see when you send a message, and then click Next.
- In the E-mail Address box, type the e-mail address for the account you are using, it is your secondary account @brigham.net Example username@brigham.net, and then click Next.
- Our mail server is a POP3 server, which is the default so don’t change this. Type mail.brigham.net in both the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server boxes. Click the Next Button
- Type your secondary account name in the Account name box. (Do not include @brigham.net). Type your password in the Password box. Verify there is a checkmark in the save password box. If it is not there click on it to change it. Click OK and then Finish.
- Follow steps 3-8 for any additional accounts.
Managing your Identities
Outlook Express will automatically open to the Main Identity each time it is opened. To switch to another identity:
- Click on File, and then Switch Identity…
- In the switch Identities dialogue box click and highlight the name of the identity you would like to open, then click OK
- The identity will open and begin downloading mail.
