Here are a few things to check if you are being disconnected.

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. Double Click the Modems Icon.

3. Select your Modem and click the PROPERTIES button.

4. Set the Maximum Speed box to 115200

5. Click OK to close the properties Windows

6. Click CLOSE to close the Modems Window

 

Second thing to Check

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. Double Click the Network Icon

3. Three Items should be listed there

Client for Microsoft Networks

Dial-Up Adapter

TCP/IP

4. If any of the following are listed click on each one and click the REMOVE button.

Client for Novell Networks

AOL Adapter

IPX/SPX Compatible Protocol

NetBEUI

5. Click the OK button. If you added or removed any items you will need to reboot your computer.

 

Third Thing to Check If you have Call Waiting on your phone line.

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. Double Click the Modems Icon.

3. Select your Modem and click the DIALING PROPERTIES button.

4. Make Sure Country is set to United States

5. Make Sure the Area Code is Set to 435

6. Click the Check box for "To Disable call waiting dial"

7. Type *70 in the box next to "To Disable call waiting dial"

8. Click OK to close the Dialing Properties Window

9 Click OK to close the Modems Window

 

Fourth thing to do is to find the web page for the manufacturer of your modem.

you should have the latest firmware available for your modem

you should have the latest drivers available for your modem.
